Samsung’s F700 to arrive on Verizon as SCH-U940?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Darren Murph @ 11:36 pm

Verizon Wireless customers, you may want to sit down for this one. Samsung's oh-so-sexy SGH-F700, which is currently thrilling quite a few Vodafone customers, could be headed to The Network -- and soon. According to Phone Arena, the Verizon variant of the F700 will be dubbed the SCH-U940, but actual details beyond that are scant. We are told that the unit will boast a 440 x 240 resolution touchscreen, QWERTY keyboard and a two-megapixel camera, but beyond that we're left to wonder. No worries though, as the phone will reportedly be landing "in a few months," so keep your eyes peeled, cool?

USB Ferris Wheel Phone Stand shocks and awes

Filed under: Uncategorized — Darren Murph @ 7:35 pm

Unfortunately, we've no idea exactly what mobiles are compatible with ConnectLand's USB Ferris Wheel Phone Stand (aside from the HTC Touch, obviously), but we're all probably better off that way. This undoubtedly bizarre device can be powered via USB or a pair of AA cells, and it sports an incoming phone call alarm in the form of... wait for it... a spinning Ferris Wheel. That's right kids, whenever your handset receives a call, the wheel starts to spin and LEDs begin to flash, giving you plenty of motivation to hand out your number to anyone who will call it. Those with money to burn can snap one up for $27, but if you're that curious to see how this thing works, why not save your dough and peek the (intensely boring) video after the jump?

Even more HP iPAQs getting delayed?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Darren Murph @ 4:26 pm

Those waiting in tense anticipation for any of HP's iPAQs could be twiddling their thumbs even longer. Amidst the recent delays (and subsequent clarifications) of the 110 and 210 comes news that a whole slew of the devices will not be shipping on time. Reportedly, HP Austria has confirmed to TamsPPC that the 110 won't arrive until early next month, while the 200 series won't land until January of next year. It gets worse -- the 614 / 614c Business Navigator is purportedly delayed until next February, and the 914 / 914c isn't set to arrive until the cows come home May of 2008. As for the 314, you can still expect it by the end of next month. Granted, we can't confirm that Austria-based delays will necessarily affect America and the rest of the globe, but it certainly isn't confidence instilling news, regardless.

Google getting cozy with Verizon and Sprint for the Gphone?

Filed under: Uncategorized — Nilay Patel @ 1:46 pm

Filed under:

The Gphone rumors have been heating up lately, and things seems like they're about to come to a boil. The Wall Street Journal, not generally known for wild rumor-mongering, is reporting that Google is in "advanced talks" with Verizon and Sprint and has made "significant progress" with T-Mobile, with an announcement of some kind due within two weeks. The news sent Google stock past $700 today, although it's still not clear if Google is simply developing its own software or going all out and doing an entire handset. Either way, it looks like Google's getting ready to make a move sometime soon, and with the amount of chatter we're hearing, it's going to be a big one.

Drop that Tilt: HTC releases WM6 upgrade for AT&T 8525

Filed under: Uncategorized — Evan Blass @ 9:44 am

Filed under:

So if you don't really need that extra megapixel and auto-focus on the camera, and you're doing just fine with your Bluetooth GPS receiver, HTC has just given you one less reason to upgrade to the AT&T Tilt by finally posting an official Windows Mobile 6 update for the 8525 / Hermes. From today tomorrow through February of next year, 8525 owners can download their first non-cooked version of Redmond's latest mobile OS, giving them some much-needed conveniences like simplified tethering -- and a much-needed refresh for an operating system that's grown a little long in the tooth. So, plug in your Hermes and go nuts; just remember to backup all your info and applications, because they'll be gone daddy gone in less than five minutes.

[Thanks, Bruce C. and mike]

Tritton intros AX BlueStream Bluetooth stereo headset

Filed under: Uncategorized — Darren Murph @ 9:22 am

Granted, Tritton's latest Bluetooth stereo headset isn't nearly as likely to garner strange looks in public as one of those tried and true BT earpieces, but we suppose we can live without all the negative attention if necessary. The AX BlueStream features a simple, 2.5-inch long clip-on device that enables users to stream tunes to earbuds of their choice via the 3.5-millimeter audio out, handle phone calls via the built-in microphone and check caller ID information on the integrated OLED display. Additionally, the unit boasts USB connectivity and can be used for PC / Mac-based VoIP calling if that's your bag. For those looking to give that ear a rest (and regain some sense of pride in the process), you can pick up Tritton's alternative right now for $79.99.

Meizu’s M8 MiniOne gets touched

Filed under: Uncategorized — Thomas Ricker @ 6:16 am

Everybody's favorite IP duplication engine is back in the news. Meizu's M8 Mini One iPhone clone just received an iPod touch makeover in a bid for protection from Apple's lawyers. See, the M8 is a phone, the touch is an MP3 player -- so toootally different your honor. They've also bumped the display from 3.3- to 3.4-inches with pricing still pegged at about $265 / $320 / $400 for the 4GB / 8GB / 16GB models if they ever make it Stateside... or locally to China for that matter. We're at 10 months and counting since it was announced.
